Join us in Bessemer this Summer for four great events that will surely add to your Summer fun in 2010. Scheduled are two "Music at Massie" concerts at the beautiful Massie Field Bandshell and two outdoor "Fish Frys & A Flick."
The summer concert series begins on Saturday, June 26, with bluegrass favorite Up North Connection and modern folk band Matt Agee and Friends. Rain date is Sunday, June 27.
You may remember Up North Connection from the October 2009 Pumpkinfest dinner, the Porkies Music Festival, or many other bluegrass events throughout the area. Local musicians Bill Gerlach, Sr., Dan Jurakovich, and Bill Gerlach, Jr. compromise this popular group.
Matt Agee is a talented entertainer known throughout the area for his performances at the Historic Ironwood Theater. He and his band will be on hand performing a variety of modern folk hits.
On August 21 (rain date is Sunday, August 22), Thymepeace will "rock the night away" with a variety of classic rock & roll hits. Also, Matt Agee returns with his one man comedy and improv show.
Local musical group Thymepeace first formed about eight years ago, concentrating on songs from the 60's and 70's that were both vocal and acoustic in nature. Today, Thymepeace consists of four original members - Dorrene O'Donnell, Jan Stahl, Mike Armata, and Bob Michaels, along with newcomers Kathy Skolasinski, Brent Ridgley, and Nick Wullf. Together, they have decided to keep some of the old songs and add quite of the new. From one pint of view, these seven vocalists/musicians bring over 100 years of musical experience to the stage. As O'Donnell stated, "With this kind of talent pool, we began to explore, then started to grow."
However, this is not the Thymepeace of yore. Yes, they still have kept such tunes as the Eagles "Take it Easy" and Stephen Stills "Love the One You're With." However, they've added such hits as Deep Purple's "Hush," T- Rex's "Bang A Gong," and Joan Jett's "Hate Myself for Loving You." "We're going for a complete Classic Rock package," quipped Michaels. "From the heavy to the sublime."
The concession stand will be open. Admission is $5 with children 10 and under free when accompanied by an adult.
Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. with music starting at 7 p.m. Alcohol is not permitted!
So bring your lawn chairs or blankets and join us for a fun filled evening of your favorites.
