Public Hearings for Amending the Zoning Ordinance

Notice is hereby given that two Public Hearings will be held by the Bessemer Planning Commission and City Council. The Planning Commission will hold their hearing on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at 6:00pm and give their recommendation to the City Council. The City Council will hold their public hearing on Monday, June 12, 2023, at 6:00pm and make the final determination. Both meetings will be held in the Council Chambers at the Bessemer City Hall.

The purpose of these hearings is to hear comments on amending the zoning ordinance to allow self-storage facilities as permitted with conditions in zones C-2 and CE.

Interested persons will have the opportunity to be heard at the time and place in this notice.  No hearsay or individual surveys will be accepted as testimony; only written or oral presentation will be acknowledged.  You can send your comments to Jennifer Adams, City Manager, at jennifer.adams@cityofbessemer.org or drop them in the city’s drop box at 411 S Sophie prior to the meeting.  Staff will read these at the council meeting. Pertinent information is on file and available for public inspection in the Clerk’s office at City Hall during normal business hours.

The City of Bessemer will, upon request, provide appropriate aids and services leading to effective communication for qualified persons with disabilities to allow equal participation in this meeting. Such aids may include qualified sign language interpreters, documents in Braille, and other ways of making information and communications accessible to people who have speech, hearing, or vision impairments. We can also provide accommodation for those with mobility issues.
